RATIONALE


The module provides students with the opportunity to identify, apply and critically evaluate leadership skills and strategies to improve the quality of public health service provision. It draws on a broad range of theories and evidence, exploring the role of the organisation and its wider context in shaping how innovation can be facilitated. The module provides the opportunity to identify, apply and critically evaluate strategies and interventions to support improvements in the quality of public health services.

AIMS


1. To provide students with an in-depth understanding of the role of a leader within the provision of public health services.
2. To introduce and explore a variety of leadership styles and approaches.
3. To explore opportunities for change, improvement and innovation within public health services.
4. To develop an understanding of the process of successful change and change management.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES


On successful completion of the module, a student will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate of the role of leadership in facilitating innovation and quality improvement in public health service provision.
2. Understand and critically analyse key leadership styles, their strengths, weaknesses and limitations.
3. Identify opportunities for public health service improvement and engage critically with opportunities for innovation and positive change.
4. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the process of change within organisations in order to facilitate service improvement.
